Clive Branson’s Fishing Tackle Recommendations – Fishing Chairs & Seat Boxes

Throughout more than 60 years of fishing, including competing at World Championship level, I’ve spent countless hours sitting on fishing boxes beside rivers, canals and lakes.

One thing I’ve learned is that comfort and organisation are far more important than many anglers realise.

Comfort makes a difference

When you’re fishing for five or six hours, particularly in a competition, an uncomfortable seating position can become a real distraction.

I always recommend choosing a fishing chair or seat box that provides good support and allows you to sit comfortably while fishing.

Stability is essential

Not every fishing bank is level. Adjustable legs and secure feet are particularly useful when fishing uneven ground.

A stable fishing position allows you to concentrate on presenting your bait and responding quickly to bites rather than constantly adjusting your seating.

Keeping your tackle organised

During a match, every second can matter.

Having hooks, floats, shot, feeders and other essential tackle within easy reach saves valuable time.

Modern fishing seat boxes often incorporate drawers, trays and compartments that make organising equipment much easier.

Fishing chairs or seat boxes?

For pleasure anglers, a comfortable fishing chair may be perfectly adequate, particularly when fishing occasionally or travelling light.

For serious match anglers, a purpose-built seat box can offer additional advantages, including storage, adjustable legs and attachments for accessories such as rod rests, side trays and keepnets.

My advice

Don’t simply choose the most expensive seat box.

Look for something sturdy, comfortable and suitable for the venues you regularly fish.

Consider the weight if you have to carry your equipment any distance, and make sure the seat height and leg adjustments suit your fishing position.

Remember, the best equipment is the tackle that helps you fish comfortably, efficiently and confidently.
